"cant wait to go back to Nepal in 2010"
Namaste,
Just back from my reconnaissance trip into Nepal.
After a terrifying 7 hour drive from Kathmandu, 17 of us, 16 Aussie’s and me from NZ, spent a week shovelling soil & rock and white washing the walls at a school in the remote town of Ramche up the Langtang Valley, north of Kathmandu. This was part of a project to help a small secondary school finish 4 new classrooms.
It was really hard work, which nearly broke my back!! Only shovels, picks and bamboo and sacking stretchers to move around 40 cubic metres of wet, stony soil!! Lovely kids and locals kept our spirits up in some unseasonal rainy weather. A rewarding experience!
Then we were off. Blessed with a change to blue sky, we climbing from 1900m to 5000m in 4 days, to peak off at the "Lauribina Pass" through the mountains. Just beautiful!!! Developed a mild altitude headache one night at the top of the climb, but a couple of Panadol cured that. Apart from that my training seems to be working well…..A great trip!!
Feel so lucky, such lovely people there!! |
