I'm Dave Evans of Auckland, New Zealand. Along with thousands of other locals, I have spent a large part of my life sailing in and around our city's magnificent maritime front garden, the Hauraki Gulf. As a child and as an adult the gulf means a lot to me. Of the islands in the gulf, I have special affection for Rangitoto. This almost perfectly circular volcanic cone, is an iconic feature of Auckland's environment, and the 360 degree views from its summit are always spectacular.
From Rangitoto to three peaks in the Sagarmatha Everest region, 2010
As a personal challenge, I had planned to climb Mt Everest in the Himalayas in 2010. The challenge is still on, but is now a little different - three peaks instead of one. Imja Tse (Island Peak), Lobuche East and Parchamo, stand to the east and west of Everest, and I plan to climb all three, on an expedition with Adventure Consultants in November/December 2010. I may go on to Everest in 2011. More about my three peaks challenge.
I am still fund-raising for the Foundation for Youth Development, aiming to raise $30,000 to support them in their work - helping New Zealand kids make their impossible dreams come true. More about me |
